His passion for coaching began early in his career. From 1982 to 1996, he served as a high school swimming coach, water polo coach, and physical education teacher.

After retiring from a 16-year career as a motion picture and television lighting technician with Union Local 728 (1996–2012), Jimmy returned to coaching. From 2012 to 2017, he guided young athletes in swimming and water polo. Since 2017, he’s been a USA Age Group Swimming Coach at Paseo Aquatics.
